Personal Records Achieved at Wesleyan Invitational II

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Senior indoor track & field student-athletes, Francesca Casasanta (Milford, Mass.) and Dalena Le (Worcester, Mass.), both qualified for Division III New England Championships this past weekend at the Wesleyan Invitational.

 

Casasanta topped the high jump event with a first place finish for a distance of 1.61m. Not only did she qualify for Division III New England's, but also ECAC Championships. She also participated in the triple jump for a fourth place finish with a distance of 10.18m. "Francesca qualified for ECAC in the high jump and had a career best ever performance," stated head coach Andrea Ouellette.

 

 "Dalena marked a career-best ever performance this weekend," mentioned Ouellette. She placed second in the triple jump, and then also finished seventh in the finals round of the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 27.41.

 

Hanna Carson (Natick, Mass.) topped the shot put with a distance of 11.61m, while Molly Downing (Dedham, Mass.) came in seventh in the event, and third in the weight throw with a distance of 13.69m. Elizabeth McCormack (Gloucester, Mass.) came in fifth in the weigh throw.

 

Sophomore Abigail Danso (Worcester, Mass.) placed fifth in the 60 Meter Hurdles at 10.04, and then placed ninth in the 60 Meter Dash with a time of 8.43. She came in 11th in the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 27.96. "Abigail went 3-for-3 with PRs in the hurdles, dash, and 200m," commented Ouellette.

 

Danielle Cote (Dighton, Mass.) finished ninth in the 800 Meter Run, while Kayla Corcoran (Lunenburg, Mass.) and Sara McIsaac (Weymouth, Mass.) came in 14th and 16th in the event.

 

Freshman Kelsey Bedard (Leominster, Mass.) placed 5th in the 1000 Meter Run with a time of 3:24.19. Megan Bachand (Granby, Mass.) and Julianne Bernazani (Chelmsford, Mass.) came in 9th and 10th places, respectively.

 

"Many of the distance girls posted PRs in their races as well," stated Ouellette. Justine Murdocca (Milford, Mass.) and Katerina Lucier (Portsmith, RI) placed fourth and seventh in the 3000 Meter Run with times of 11:40.14 and 12:15.55, respectively.

 

"The team did a great job stepping up this week," commented Ouellette. "We had a lot of PRs and qualifiers this week. We're feeling more confident going into MASCAC's next week."
