Women’s Indoor Track and Field Team Opens Season at UMass Boston Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. – The Worcester State women's track and field team kicked off the 2016-17 indoor season on Saturday (Dec. 3) at the UMass Boston Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Center.

 

Worcester State's Abigail Danso (Worcester, Mass.) qualified for Division III New Englands in the 60 Meter Hurdles with a 7th place finish in 9.65. Danso led the Lancer in the 60 Meter Dash as she came in 27th place of 80 contestants in a time of 8.50.

 

Freshman Rachel Stier (Mansfield, Mass.) started her collegiate career with a 10th place finish in the 400 Meter Dash in a time of 1:02.91. She also placed 32nd in the 200 Meter Dash. Classmate Brenda "Tete" Thomas (Worcester, Mass.) came in 16th in the 200 Meter.

 

First year Courtney Guay (Londonderry, N.H.) completed the 800 Meter Run in 2:37.41 for a 9th place finish. Juniors Kayla Corcoran (Lunenburg, Mass.) and Rachel Lauzon (Carver, Mass.) followed at 13th and 14th places, respectively.

 

Junior Justine Murdocca (Milford, Mass.) placed 6th and 7th in the 100 Meter Run (3:35.16) and the 5000 Meter Run (20:03.64), respectively. Classmate Laura DelleChiaie (Haverhill, Mass.) came in the six spot in the 5000 Meter Run at 19:46.68

 

Freshman Elisabeth Olson (Wilmington, Mass.) was the top Lancer finish in the mile run in a time of 5:53.64 for a 16th place finish. Classmate Kendra Wynn (Chelmsford, Mass.) was the lone Lancer in the 3000 Meter Run and came in 9th at 12:42.89.

 

Freshman Abigail MacGregor (Salem, N.H.) partook in the triple jump event and recorded a final distance of 9.31m for 14th place.

 

Worcester State's Elizabeth McCormack (Gloucester, Mass.) led the Blue and Gold in the throwing events as she came in 10th place in the weight throw (11.91m) and 21st in the shot put (9.70m).

 

The Lancers return to competition next week as they travel to Reggie Lewis once again for the Northeastern Invitational before going into the holiday break.
