Women’s Indoor Track & Field Wraps up Regular Season at Wesleyan Invitational

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Worcester State University's women's indoor track & field team wrapped up the regular season on Saturday (Feb. 4) at the Wesleyan Invitational inside the Wesleyan-Bacon Field House.

 

Worcester State saw two top performances from Abigail Danso (Worcester, Mass.) who recorded to PR's in both the 60 Meters and 60 Meter Hurdles. Danso claimed third place in the 60 Meter Hurdles as she recorded a PR time of 9.40. She also claimed sixth place in the 60 Meter sprint in a time of 8.47 – after she had recorded a PR 8.38 in the preliminaries.

 

Doreen Buabeng (Worcester, Mass.) came from behind Danso in the 60 Meter preliminaries and pulled ahead to fourth place overall in a time of 8.30. Worcester State's Lauren Waters (Mansfield, Mass.) and Abigail MacGregor (Salem, N.H.) were just behind Danso and Buabeng in the preliminaries as they marked times of 8.42 – 8.49 – 8.49.

 

Buabeng and MacGregor came in 10th and 12th places, respectively, in the 200 Meter, while another freshman, Rachel Stier (Mansfield, Mass.) came in ninth in the 400 Meters (1:02.81). Kayla Corcoran (Lunenburg, Mass.) was the top Lancer finisher in the 600 Meter (1:52.85), while Courtney Guay (Londonderry, N.H.) and Elisabeth Olson (Wilmington, Mass.) were the top finishers in the 800 Meter and mile run. The group of Corcoran, Megan Bachand, Guay and Olson marked a sixth place finish in the 4x800 relay.

 

Junior Justine Murdocca (Milford, Mass.) claimed sixth place in the 3000 Meters in a PR time of 11:23.23. Laura DelleChiaie (Haverhill, Mass.) followed at 11:50.64.

 

Leading the Blue and Gold in the throwing events was senior Elizabeth McCormack (Gloucester, Mass.) who notched third place in the weight throw for a PR of 14.31m. She also earned 12th place in the shot put competition.

 

Next week the women's track & field qualifiers will travel to the MASCAC/Alliance Championships, hosted by Southern Maine.
