Women’s Indoor Track & Field Takes Third at MASCAC Championship

PORTLAND, Me. – The Worcester State University women's indoor track & field team took third place at the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Championship, hosted by the University of Southern Maine, on Saturday.

 

Worcester State's senior thrower Elizabeth McCormack (Gloucester, Mass.) impressed as she claimed 2nd place in the MASCAC, and 3rd place in the Alliance (MASCAC and Little East Conference combined) championships with a top throw of 14.15m. Megan Roulliard (Barrington, N.H.) and Caitlyn Brennan (Dedham, Mass.) also scored in the MASCAC's as they threw for 12.81m and 10.33m, respectively.

 

Rookie Haley Moss (Melrose, Mass.) claimed the MASCAC's 3rd place in the high jump at 1.52m, and came in 6th in the Alliance.

 

Worcester State's Abigail Danso (Worcester, Mass.) and Delia Rhodes (Lawrence, Mass.) held down the 55 Meter Hurdles as they claimed 4th and 6th places (MASCAC), respectively, in the event at 8.83 and 9.75. Danso placed 5th in the Alliance in the hurdles.

 

The freshmen and sophomores held down the running events, with the exception of junior Justine Murdocca's 4th place MASCAC finish in the 5000 Meter Run (6th place Alliance).

 

Freshman Doreen Buabeng (Worcester, Mass.) placed 6th in the MASCAC in the 55 Meter Dash (7.82).

 

Rachel Stier (Mansfield, Mass.) and Tete Thomas (Worcester, Mass.) claimed 3rd and 6th places, respectively, in the MASCAC's 400 Meter Dash, while Stier placed 7th in the Alliance rankings. Courtney Guay (Londonderry, N.H.) came in 4th in the 600 Meter Run (1:47.25). Elisabeth Olson (Wilmington, Mass.) claimed 4th in the MASCAC's mile run in a time of 5:39.93. Sophomore Laura DelleChiaie (Haverhill, Mass.) came in 5th (MASCAC) in the 3000 Meter Run.

 

Worcester State's 4x400 meter relay team of Thomas, Stier, Elizabeth Charity (Sutton, Mass.), and Lauren Waters (Mansfield, Mass.) claimed 2nd place in the MASCAC, while the Lancers took 3rd in the MASCAC in both the 4x200 and 4x800 relays.

 

Next week (Feb. 17-18) a group of the women's indoor track & field team will travel to Tufts to compete at the Division III New England meet.
