Wise, Jasper Lead Women's Outdoor Track To Second At Fitchburg State

 

Fitchburg, MA --- Senior Briana Wise (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) took first in the 100 (12.64) and 200 (26.15) before she helped anchor the 4x100 relay team to second overall to help lead the Worcester State women's indoor track and field team at the non-scoring Eric Loeschner Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State.

#12 Tufts won the meet with 249 points while #24 Worcester State beat out #19 Wheaton for second place with 120.5 points to the 78.5 score the Lyons put up.

The 4x100 relay team of Wise, junior Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) along with sophomore teammates Liz Bodensieck (Raynham, MA) and Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA) sprinted to a time of 50.42.

Third-year Jenna Pickard (Peabody, MA) placed first in the 10,000 (43.39.81) while Hodgerney was second in the 200 (26.69) and fourth in the 100 (12.83). Deininger added second in the 100 meter hurdles and fifth in the 100 (13.00).

Sophomore Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) impressed by eclipsing the school record with fourth in the shot put (39-5.50/12.03m) to better her ECAC Division III Championship mark that was the third-best throw at the Holy Cross Heptathlon on Wednesday.

Jasper broke the mark that previously had been held by current teammate Hannah Werneth (N. Yarmouth, ME) who set it at the Division III New England's (38-0.75/11.83m).

Other standouts in the field included sophomore Amanda Caldarone (Danvers, MA) also had a solid leap in the long jump (16-11/5.16m) to qualify herself for the ECACs.

Werneth placed eighth in a deep shot put field to stamp her ticket to the Division III New England's (37-1.50/11.32m) and finished with fifth in the discus (114-4.75/34.87m)

In the high jump, sophomore Cayla Leinonen (Spencer, MA), freshman Francesca Casasanta (Hopkinton) and second-year Casey Keedy (Northampton, MA) all cleared second (5-1/1.55m), third (4-11/1.50m) and sixth (4-9/1.45m), respectively.

Freshman Angelique Nurse (Auburn, MA) was fourth in the triple jump (32-7.75) and Casasanta wasn't too far behind in fifth (32-5/9.88m). First-year Courtney Spinelli (Tewksbury, MA) tossed fifth in the javelin (106-2.25) while classmate Samantha Barron (N. Andover, MA) chipped in with eighth (95-9/29.19m).

In the 400, junior Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA) and freshman Emily Riehl (Trumbull, CT) were less than one second off each other in eighth (1:02.24) and ninth (1:02.66), respectively, as sophomore Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) put up a season-best split in the 400 meter hurdles (1:07.64).

Freshman Maddison Benson (Attleboro, MA) notched seventh in the 100 meter hurdles (17.01) and junior Ali Barrett (Hingham, MA) rounded out the meet with eighth in the 5,000 (20:25.41).

Next week, the Lancers try capture a second-straight conference title at the MASCAC/Alliance Championships hosted by Bridgewater State.
