Women's Outdoor Track Takes Home Second At UMass Dartmouth

 

Women's Outdoor Track Ranked Among Top 40 Teams Nationally In USTFCCCA Composite Index

 

N. Dartmouth, MA --- Senior Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) helped pace the Worcester State women's outdoor track team to three first place finishes as the Lancers ended the meet with second overall at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Invitational.  

Colby won the meet with 139 points while the Blue and Gold tallied 116 to beat out Bridgewater State (84) and the hosting Corsairs (55).

Deininger placed first individually in the 100 meters (12.69) and the 100 meter hurdles (15.08) while she led off the winning 4x100 meter relay (49.20) that also included junior teammates Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA), Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) and Liz Bodensieck (Raynham, MA).

For her efforts, Deininger received the nod as this weeks MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week.

Jasper had a strong day in the field with second overall in the javelin (36.39m/119-4.50), fourth in the discus (107-4/32.71m) and fifth both the 100 meter hurdles (16.11) and 200 (26.89).

Junior Hanna Carson (Natick, MA) continued her solid spring in the shot put with a personal best toss in the event as the runner-up (11.25m/36-10.75).

Senior Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA), sophomore Dalena Le (Worcester, MA/Doherty) and junior Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) placed second (1:07.75), third (1:07.78) and fifth (1:10.52), respectively in the 400 meter hurdles.

Other standouts on the track included Hodgerney who notched third in the 200 (26.58) and sixth in the 100 (13.06) while Bodensieck registered sixth in the 100 (13.10) and seventh in the 200 (26.96).

Fourth-year Hannah Werneth (N. Yarmouth, ME) tossed fourth in the shot put (11.11m/36-5.25) and fifth in the discus (105-10/32.26m), Le had a leap of fifth in the triple jump (10.50m/34-5.25) and senior Marlene Christenson (Danvers, MA) put up fifth in the hammer throw (37.38m/122-7.50).

Junior Cayla Leinonen (Spencer, MA) had a leap of third in the high jump (4-9/1.45m), followed by Taylor and freshman Erin McIntyre (Whitinsville, MA) who both equaled 10th (4-9/1.45m).

The third place 4x400 meter relay of Tyalor, Le, McMahon as anchor and junior Kim West (Harvard, MA) teamed for a split of 4:15.73.

Third-year Shannon Trybus (Bondsville, MA) added ninth in the hammer (117-5/35.80m) while sophomore Eva Bunszell (Bridgewater, MA) placed 12th in the 400 (1:02.99) and classmate Emily Riehl (Trumbull, CT) was 13th in the 800 (2:34.12).

Division III New England qualifiers at the meet included Deininger in the 100, Hodgerney in the 200, Le in the triple jump and Werneth in the shot put.

Next week the Lancers will compete at the Wesleyan Invitational.
