Women's Outdoor Track Stands Pat At Ninth In USTFCCCA New England Regional Index

 

Westfield, MA --- Senior Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) claimed Open New England honors with third overall in the 100 meter hurdles (14.44) as she helped lead Worcester State to 30th place at the Open New England Championships this afternoon hosted by Westfield State.

Deininger, the only Division III competator in the finals, sprinted to the 11th fastest time in nationally as she won the fifth heat of the trials with a split of 14.37, which shattered her own school record in the event.

Her preliminary time is also the second-best time in New England, just behind national leader Ashante Little (Seabrook, NH) of Wheaton (14.10). She was honored as the MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week.

Junior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) continued her fine season when she had a toss of eighth in the javelin (129-4/39.42m) to claim All-New England accolades in the event for the second-straight campaign.

The 4x100 meter relay team was just out of the running scoring points with ninth that included junior Liz Bodensieck (Raynham, MA), classmate Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA), Jasper and Deininger with a time of 47.91. The 4x100 relay is the 15th-best as of Sunday evening in the Division III rankings.

Senior Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA), sophomore Eva Bunszell (Bridgewater, MA), classmate Emily Riehl (Trumbull, CT) and junior Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) teamed for 20th in the 4x400 relay (4:01.47).

Other strong performances included Hodgerney who placed 18th in the 200 (25.71) while Deininger and Hodgerney were 27th (12.66) and 28th (12.66) in the 100, respectively.

Taylor registered 18th in the 400 meter hurdles (1:06.86) as sophmore Dalena Le (Worcester, MA/Doherty) was just behind with 21st (1:07.69). Jasper finished 27th in the 100 meter hurdles (15.46).

In the field, sophomore Hanna Carson (Natick, MA) marked up 17th in the shot put (38-0.25/11.59m) and senior Hannah Werneth (N. Yarmouth, ME) was just off with 23rd in the same event (37-1.75/11.32m).

Next week select Lancers will compete at two-day ECAC Division III New England Championships hosted by RPI.
