Women's Outdoor Track Ties For 39th At Open New England Championships

 

Cambridge, MA --- Senior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) had a heave of seventh in the javelin (130-2/39.68m) and she was among the top 15 in two other events to help pace the Worcester State women's track and field team to tie for 39th at the New England Championships this afternoon at MIT.

With their two team points, the Lancers have scored at points in each of the last four New England Championship outdoor meets.

In addition to the second highest toss for a Division III competitor in the javelin, Jasper was also 11th in the 100 meter hurdles (14.77) and 14th in the 200 (25.73). Her times were fourth and sixth, respectively, among Division III student-athletes.

Junior Hanna Carson (Natick, MA) was just out of the running for placing in the shot put with 11th (39-8.50/12.10m) while senior Amanda Caldarone (Danvers, MA) notched 16th in the long jump (17-6/5.33m).

Senior Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA) time 20th in the 200 (25.98) for the sixth-lowest Division III split and classmate Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) added 18th for the seventh fastest Division III time (1:05.21).

In relay action, the 4x800 meter relay of freshman Kayla Corcoran (Lunenburg, MA), classmate Sarah McIsaac (Weymouth, MA), sophomore Danielle Cote (Dighton, MA) and freshman Danielle Bavoux (Medway, MA) shattered a six-year standard, finishing 19th (10:10.31).

The previous school record of 10:15.44 in the 4x800 had been set at established by Kara Antrim, Danielle Clifford, Megan Plant and Maura Withington and was set at the MASCAC Championships.

Sophomore Erin Beccia (Rutland, MA) placed 22nd in the 10,000 (40.24.78).

Sophomore Aliya-Marie Melville (Worcester, MA/South), junior Eva Bunszell (Bridgewater, MA), Hodgerney and McMahon were 17th in the 4x400 relay (3:58.73) as McMahon led-off, freshman Emily Visconti (N. Reading, MA) was second, junior Nichole Tillery (Auburn, MA) went third and Hodgerney anchored the 22nd place 4x100 relay (50.03).
