Jasper Places Ninth In Heptathlon, 19th In Javelin At NCAA Championships

Canton, NY --- Senior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) recorded 4,680 points to earn ninth place in the heptathlon at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships hosted by St. Lawrence.

On the final day, Jasper had the third longest javelin throw (126-2/38.46m), the 14th fastest 800 (2:28.11) and the 16th longest long jump (15-11.75/4.87m), a new career best.

Her sum is the third-highest out of five heptathlon WSU scores at the NCAA Championships, just below her sum of 4,714 points which helped Jasper earn eighth place and All-American accolades last season. Lancer Hall of Famer Elke Aun won the 1996 National Championship in the heptathlon and scored points at the NCAAs in 1997 and 1994.

On Thursday, Jasper put up a personal-best time in the 200 meters (25.54) for the third lowest split in the field while she was also sixth in the shot put (35-10/10.92 meters), 12th in the 110 meter hurdles (15.18) and she tied for 18th in the high jump (4-8.75/1.44m)

Jasper beat out 22 other entrants for a top ten spot and she was the only competitor in the field from New England.

In Saturday's open javelin competition, Jasper had a toss of 129-1 (39.34m) for 19th overall in her fourth career NCAA appearance in the event.
