FITCHBURG, Mass. – Both the men's and women's track & field teams won the Eric Loeschner Track & Field Invitational, hosted by Fitchburg State, on Saturday (Apr. 15), as the women's team flew past its 17 opponents, and scored 167.50 points as a team.
Sophomore Stephanie McFadries (Burlington, Mass.) won the javelin throw competition as she marked a distance of 41.20m. With this result, she stands at 10th place on the NCAA Division III national list.
Senior Elizabeth McCormack (Gloucester, Mass.) led the Lancers in the remaining throwing events, taking second place in the hammer throw (44.17), sixth place in the discus (31.46), and ninth place in the shot put. Caitlyn Brennan (Dedham, Mass.) and Megan Rouillard (Barrington, N.H.) also placed in the hammer throw, coming in fourth (40.29m) and seventh (37.65m) places, respectively.
Freshman Haley Moss (Melrose, Mass.) earned the number one spot in the high jump event at 1.55m. Delia Rhodes (Lawrence, Mass.) followed her with a 6th place finish in the same event (1.30m). Abigail MacGregor (Salem, N.H.) was the top Lancer in the long and triple jump as she placed third in both at 4.78m and 9.68m, respectively.
Freshman Rachel Stier (Mansfield, Mass.) won the 400 Meter Dash in a PR time of 1:00.62, while Brenda Thomas (Worcester, Mass.) followed at fifth place (1:04.12).
Mia Rogers (N. Dighton, Mass.) won the 5000 Meter Run in a time of 19:26.22. Laura DelleChiaie (Haverhill, Mass.) followed at second place, while Justine Murdocca (Milford, Mass.), Kendra Wynn (Chelmsford, Mass.), and Emily Dickson (Marlborough, Mass.) also scored in the event.
Worcester State won both the 4x100 and 4x800 Meter relay in times of 50.72 and 10:57.29, respectively.
Abigail Danso (Worcester, Mass.) led the Lancers in the hurdles, as she placed second in the 100 Meter Hurdles in a time of 15.85. Rhodes followed at fifth place in the same event. Rachel Lauzon (Carver, Mass.) was the sole Lancers to compete in the 400 Meter Hurdles and placed seventh in a time of 1:15.86.
Four Lancers were in the top-8 in the 100 Meter Dash, including Doreen Buabeng (Worcester, Mass.), Lauren Waters (Mansfield, Mass.), Danso, and MacGregor. Buabeng not only claimed third in the 100 Meter, but she also took second in the 200 Meter Dash (27.11). Rachel Stier (Mansfield, Mass.) took sixth place, while Waters claimed eighth in the 200.
Danielle Bavoux (Medway, Mass.) and Elisabeth Olsen (Wilmington, Mass.) placed third and seventh, respectively in the 800 Meter Run.
Shayla Schoeneberger (Vernon, Conn.) came in the seventh slot in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase (14:38.43). In the 1500 Meter Run, Kelsey Bedard (Leominster, Mass.) came in eighth in 5:30.99.
This upcoming week (Apr. 19-20) a group of Lancers will compete at Holy Cross in the Heptathlon and Decathlon.
