Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Takes Third at MASCAC Championships; Sixth in Alliance

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Worcester State University women's track & field team tallied 132 points and took third place at the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) outdoor championships this Saturday at Westfield State.

 

"This was a great week for us," commented head coach Andrea Ouellette. "Lots of girls stepped up and scored points where we didn't expect them to. We had a lot of PR's and numerous Division III New England qualifiers."

 

Lauren Waters (Mansfield, Mass.) was tabbed the MASCAC Champion of the 100 Meter Dash in a PR time of 12.54 seconds, qualifying for Division III New England's with the result. Teammate Doreen Buabeng (Worcester, Mass.) followed at 2nd place with a time of 12.61 seconds, and also qualifying in the event. They came in 5th and 6th places in the Alliance.

 

Freshman Rachel Stier (Mansfield, Mass.) and Buabeng came in 4th and 5th places in the MASCAC, respectively, in the 200 Meter Dash with PR's. Stier was tabbed 3rd (6th MASCSAC) in the 400 Meter Dash (1:00.04), while Danielle Bavoux (Medway, Mass.) came in 4th in the 800 Meter Run with a PR time of 2:26.47.

 

Rookie Haley Moss (Melrose, Mass.) tied for 1st place in the MASCAC in the high jump with a top clearing of 1.53m (tied for 2nd place Alliance).

 

Waters also competed in the jumps and came in 4th in the long jump (4.60m - PR), while classmate Abigail MacGregor (Salem, N.H.) followed at 5th (4.54m). MacGregor came in 3rd in the triple jump (10.29m).

 

Worcester State's 4x100 Meter Relay team of Waters, MacGregor, Stier, and Buabeng came in 2nd place (5th Alliance) in a time of 49.01.

 

Mia Rogers (N. Dighton, Mass.) captured a MASCAC 2nd place in the 5K run (19:21.99), and claimed the 4th place spot in Alliance rankings.

 

Laura DelleChiaie (Haverhill, Mass.) and Justine Murdocca (Milford, Mass.) came in 3rd and 5th places (4th and 7th Alliance), respectively, in the 10,000 Meter Run to total eight MASCAC points for the Blue and Gold.

 

Abigail Danso (Worcester, Mass.) came in 3rd place (5th Alliance) in the 100 Meter Hurdles with a PR time of 15.22, and came in 6th in the 400 Meter Hurdles (1:15.53).

 

Kelsey Bedard (Leominster, Mass.) marked a MASCAC 3rd place finish in the 1500 Meter Run with a PR time of 5:12.48.

 

In the throws, Elizabeth McCormack (Gloucester, Mass.) earned a MASCAC 2nd place finish with PR throws in both the hammer throw (44.17m) and discus (32.42m), while Caitlyn Brennan (Dedham, Mass.) followed at 4th in both events (40.49m, 29.88m). Stephanie McFadries (Burlington, Mass.) claimed 2nd in both the MASCAC and Alliance with a javelin throw of 38.37m.

"For such a young team, they are truly showing lots of promise for the years to come," concluded Ouellette.

This upcoming week, a select group of women's track & field student-athletes will travel to Williams college to take part in the Division III New England Meet (May 4-6).
