Agustsdottir Secures Second Place at Holy Cross Heptathlon

WORCESTER, Mass. - Worcester State University's Asgerdur Jana Agustsdottir (Akureyri, Iceland) secured a second place finish of 11 competitors at the Holy Cross Heptathlon this week with an overall score of 4,613.

 

She earned first place finishes in the high jump and javelin throw, and came in second in both the shot put and long jump amongst competitors from Divisions I, II, and III schools.

 

She marked personal bests in the high jump (1.67m/5' 5.75"), javelin throw (39.41m/129' 3.5"), long jump (5.32m/17' 5.5"), 100 meter hurdles (15.70), and 200 meter dash (27.40).

 

With her heptathlon score, she sits atop the Division III New England rankings, and is third on the NCAA Division III national list. She also currently stands at second in New England in the high jump, and fifth on the national listings.

High Jump: 1st Place (1.67m/5' 5.75")

Javelin Throw: 1st Place (39.41m/129' 3")

Shot Put: 2nd Place (11.33m/37' 2.25")

Long Jump: 2nd Place (5.32m/17' 5.5")

100 Meter Hurdles: 4th Place (15.70)

200 Meter Dash: 5th Place (27.40)

800 Meter Run: 9th Place (2:51.86)

"What a couple of days!" expressed head coach Andrea Ouellette. "Jana took each event one by one and focused on all the little thing she needed to do and succeeded. She marked six personal records and really that's all we could ask for."

 

"Today she battled the blistering winds but powered through," said Ouellette. "All said and done he walks away with not only a nationally competitive point total but also another school record in the high jump."
