Mensah Earns MASCAC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week Award

WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman Bernice Mensah (Worcester, Mass.) has been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) women's outdoor track & field rookie of the week for her performances at the Tufts Snowflake Classic this past weekend.

She earned the top spot in the triple jump with a leap of 11.15m (36' 7") and performed well in the long jump (5.05m/16' 7") to take sixth place. She came in 10th in the 200 meter dash (27.37), and 15th in the 100 meter dash (13.42) at the event.

"Bernice never shies away from hard work," commented Worcester State women's track & field head coach, Andrea Ouellette.  "She comes in everyday and works hard at practice no matter what is asked of her. She has become very focused on the little things in her technique and I believe that is what is making the difference and helping her see success."

"As she continues to work on the little details, it will be exciting to see how far and fast she can go this season!" concluded Ouellette.

Up next, the team will travel to Springfield, Mass. for the AIC Yellow Jacket Invitational.
