WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University's Bernice Mensah (Worcester, Mass.) earned her fourth consecutive (fifth total) Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) outdoor track & field rookie of the week award for her performances at Division III New England's this past weekend.

Mensah broke a school record in the triple jump (11.59/38-0.25) at the championships to finish fifth in the event. She bested head coach's, Andrea Ouellette, record which was posted in 2009.

"Bernice went after it this weekend," commented Ouellette. "She's really been focused on making the small adjustments she needs to see the big results, and she certainly did this weekend. She is very excited about her performance, as am I."

Mensah also competed in the 100 meters (12.52) and long jump (5.15m/16-10.75) at the Division III New England Championships.

"She is ready to keep working these next two weeks to see if she can get herself into nationals," said Ouellette. "She's definitely not done yet."

The women's track & field team will head to Dartmouth College this weekend to compete against all New England teams, and will head to the MIT Last Chance Meet the following weekend.
