Outdoor Track & Field Opens NEICAAA Championships

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Four Worcester State University student-athletes competed Friday afternoon on the opening day of the NEICAAA Championships at Southern Connecticut State University.

Sophomore John Ojukwu (Stow, Mass.) competed in the preliminary round of the 100 meter dash, qualifying Saturday's final with an eighth place finish and a time of 10.96 seconds.

Distance runner Mia Rogers (North Dighton, Mass.) broke her own school record in the 10,000 meter run for the second consecutive week, good for a third place finish. The senior ran a time of 37:38.36, besting her New England Championship winning time from last weekend by nine seconds.

Senior Anthony Christo (Peabody, Mass.) was the 19th place finisher in the hammer throw. Christo had a top heave of 44.79 meters on the afternoon.

Junior Abigail MacGregor (Salem, N.H.) ran in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes on the afternoon, finishing in 18th place in each event. She achieved a time of 12.66 seconds in the 100 meter, and 25.91 seconds in the 200 meter.

Ojukwu and a handful of other Lancers will return tomorrow for the second day of competition at the NEICAAA Championships.
