Worcester, MA- The Women's Outdoor Track and Field team finished strong in their second meet of the outdoor season when they traveled to UMass-Dartmouth to compete in the Corsairs Classic. Sticking with the successful trend from last meet and the indoor season, the 4x100 team led by seniors Maureen Grady (Douglas, MA), Heather Turner (Ashland, MA), Elena Pellegrini (Ashland, MA) and Bridget Maunsell (West Boylston, MA) and junior Eryca Lopes (Ayer, MA) had another successful finish on the day. This finish was highlighted by the number of top finishes both on the track and in the field that the women recorded on the day.
Senior Riley Sanderson (Leominster, MA) picked up a first place finish with a 37.38m throw in the Javelin to anchor the strong performances of the Lancer team in the afternoon. Sophomore Arianna Constant's (Leominster, MA) javelin sailed about 10m less to finish in seventh place with a 27.91m measurement while senior Taylor Solimine (Hudson, MA) wrapped up the trio with a 23rd place finish after a 21.8m toss.
The Lancers had immediate success on the track today with their 4x100 relay team grabbing a strong second place finish, crossing in a time of 51.59. The distance runners jumped onto the track next with senior Erica Hanlon (Shrewsbury, MA) finishing the 1500m race in 22nd in a time of 5:59.42, while first year Leah Berg (Worcester, MA) crossed in 27th in a time of 6:08.97. First year Nina Fonteix (Elancourt, FR) crossed in 8th place in the 800m in a speedy time of 2:49.35.
Members of the relay team were back in action in the 400m race as Maunsell and Turner crossed in fourth and fifth with times of 64.95 and 66.15 respectively. While first year Erin Condon (East Bridgewater, MA) finished in 11th at time of 68.69, as well as securing a seventh place finish in the 200m with a time of 31.99. Pellegrini on the other hand went for an additional 100m, finishing fourth in 13.5 seconds.
The Lancers Track team is back in action next Saturday when they head to Fitchburg State for the Jim Sheehan Classic.
