Women's Volleyball Splits At Worcester City Tournament

 

Worcester, MA --- The Worcester State women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon at the 29th Annual Worcester City Tournament hosted by Clark.

The Lancers suffered a 3-0 setback to Clark before they rebounded and earned the 3-0 triumph in the consolation round over Becker. 

In upcoming action this week, the Blue and Gold continue their season against Newbury College on Tuesday before they participate at the Wesleyan/Trinity Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

 

 

Clark 3, Worcester State 0

Clark won the opening match of the Worcester City Championship by winning the contest in three straight sets by scores of 25-22, 25-18 and 25-21.

The Lancers were paced by junior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) and sophomore Meghan Deighan (Lynnfield, MA) who both finished with a team-best nine kills while senior Vicki O'Brien (Canton, MA) added 14 digs.

Third-year Amanda Lewis (Poughkeepsie, NY) handed out 20 assists and classmate Ali Remigio (Tewksbury, MA) contributed two of the squads 2.5 blocks with a pair of solos rejections.

Sophomore Jennifer Cabral (Swansea, MA) also played a strong role defensively with nine digs in the losing effort for the Blue and Gold.

 

Worcester State 3, Becker 0

Junior Alyssa Jasper finished with 10 kills and a .375 hitting perentage (10-4-16 attempts) as she helped Worcester State defeat Becker in three consecutive sets, 25-9, 25-15 and 25-19.

Senior Megan Brown (Dartmouth, MA) also registered eight kills while Jasper and Brown combined to record seven service aces.

Junior Ali Remigio chipped in with three kills and a trio of block assists to help lead the offense and sophomore Kaylee Leduc (Swansea, MA) notched a trifecta of aces for WSU.
