O’Brien Reaches 1,000 Dig Milestone In 3-0 Victory Over MCLA

 

Worcester, MA ---  Junior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) finished the contest with an outstanding .440 hitting percentage with a game-best 14 kills to help lead Worcester State to a 3-0 triumph over MCLA in MASCAC women's volleyball action this afternoon at the Laska Gym.

With the win the Lancers improve their record to 5-9 on the season and remain unbeaten at 2-0 in conference play while the Trailblazers even out their season mark to 7-7 in their first league contest.

The Blue and Gold won each set decisively with scores of 25-23, 25-12 and 25-20.

Senior Megan Brown (Dartmouth, MA) also finished with nine kills and eight digs and junior Amanda Lewis (Poughkeepsie, NY) dished out 35 assists.

Senior Vicki O'Brien (Canton, MA), who tallied 13 digs, became the first Worcester State women's volleyball player to reach the 1,000 dig milestone. Just two weeks ago, O'Brien took over the top spot as the programs all-time dig leader since statistics were first recorded in 2003.

Other standouts for the Lancers included sophomore Jennifer Cabral (Swansea, MA) who added eight digs and classmate Kaylee Leduc (Swansea, MA) had a pair of service aces.

Sophomore Courtney Parent (S. Deerfield, MA) propelled MCLA in the losing effort with 16 assists, 10 digs and three kills.

Senior Julia Christian (Cohoes, NY) also chipped in with seven kills while senior Kendra Hobbs (Haverhill, MA) put up a team-best 12 digs.

Both squads continue MASCAC play on Wednesday at 7 PM. Worcester State heads west to Westfield State while the Trailblazers travel east for a meeting at Framingham State.
