Women's Volleyball Dealt 3-1 MASCAC Loss By Westfield State

 

Westfield, MA --- Westfield State senior Julia Warner (Lee, MA) posted a double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs and junior Carolyn Cote (Chelmsford, MA) handed out 33 assists to go with four service aces as they both helped lead the Owls to a 3-1 victory in MASCAC women's volleyball action this evening at the Woodard Center.

Westfield State (10-7, 2-0 MASCAC) won in four sets by scores of 25-22, 18-25, 25-12 and 25-20 while the Lancers slip to 5-10 and 2-1 in the seven-team loop.

The Owls held on to win the first game, 25-22, then the Blue and Gold took game two, 25-18, led by the tandem of junior teammates Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) and Amanda Lewis (Poughkeepsie, NY). Jasper posted a season-best 17 kills and Lewis had a team-high 27 assists.

Sparked by solid serving from Cote, Westfield bounced back to dominate the third game, 25-12.

Worcester State jumped out to an early lead in the fourth game, but Westfield regrouped and took the 14-13 edge for good.

With the Owls ahead 18-15, following a Lancer timeout, the hosts scored on consecutive blocks to take a 20-15 lead. Westfield State clinched the match when senior Lindsay Rescott (Northport, NY) and junior Carole Duquette (Feeding Hills, MA) teamed up for another block. 

Rescott finished with eight kills and 12 digs and senior Kayleigh Shea (Chelmsford, MA) equaled the effort with 12 digs of her own for the hosts. Sophomore Casey Howe (Chelmsford, MA) also had a game-best eight blocks to go with eight kills.

Senior Megan Brown (Dartmouth, MA) and sophomore Meghan Deighan (Lynnfield, MA) recorded eight and seven kills, respectively, for the Lancers. Brown also had team highs of 12 digs and three service aces.
