Brown Ends Career with New England Women’s Volleyball Association Honor

 

N. Dartmouth, MA --- Senior Megan Brown (Dartmouth, MA) has been distinguished with an honorable mention award for her four year contributions by the New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA) this past week.     

In addition to being a nomination to the annual NEWVA Senior All-Star game, Brown was one of 10 honorees to garner honorable mention laurels and she was the only representative from the MASCAC.

Brown was one of three Lancers to earn All-MASCAC accolades as she was recognized on the Second-team. She returned from a leg injury sustained at the beginning of her sophomore campaign and came back into form to help lead the squad down the stretch during her senior semester.

As a dual threat in the conference as a strong attacker and defender, Brown finished the year ranked in the top 10 in total kills per set (5th – 2.53), kills (7th – 253) and points (9th – 284.5 while she was also in the top 15 in digs per set (11th - 241) and cumulative digs (12th – 241).

Brown had seven double-doubles to lead the squad this season which includes 16 kills and 10 digs in a 3-2 regular season victory over Wentworth. She also had a 21 kills and seven digs in a 3-2 marathon setback to Westfield State in the MASCAC Tournament semifinals.

She wrapped up her career with 660 kills and 804 digs which are both fourth in Worcester State's all-time career record book.

As the 2010-11 MASCAC Rookie of the Year and All-MASCAC First-team honoree, Brown led the squad with 246 kills and 281 digs in 107 sets during her freshman campaign. Her dig total that season set the record for the most ever notched by a first-year WSU player.

Brown joins former standouts Becky Lebel (20and Lauren Saylor as both ended their careers with the honorable NEWVA distinction.

The Lancers, guided by 10th year head coach Bernie Chase, ended the season at 9-19 (3-3 MASCAC) and made their sixth appearance in the conference tournament semifinals in the last seven years.

Women's volleyball single-game, season and career leaders were first recorded starting in the 2003 season.
