Women's Volleyball Sweeps Wentworth Tri-Match

 

Boston, MA --- Paced by the stellar offense and defense of senior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) and junior Jennifer Cabral (Swansea, MA), Worcester State earned a 3-1 victory over Lesley and a 3-2 triumph over Wentworth on Saturday afternoon at the Tansey Gymnasum.

With the victories, the Lancers improve to 10-2 on the campaign.

Jasper, who ended the twinbill with 34 kills, is now just 21 away from the 1,000 kill milestone.

Worcester State continues their road trip with a visit to Bay Path on Tuesday (8 PM), a matchup against Becker in Leicester (7 PM) and a MASCAC contest against MCLA on Saturday at 1 PM.

 

Worcester State 3, Lesley 1

Highlighted by junior Kaylee Leduc's (Swansea, MA) match-best 25 digs, five ended the contest in double-figure dig totals as Worcester State dispatched Lesley, 3-1, to open the Wentworth tri-match at the Tansey Gymnasium.

After the Leopards (5-2) defeated the Lancers in the opening set, 25-15, the Blue and Gold came back with a vengeance and won the next three by scores of 25-15, 25-10 and 27-25.

Senior Alyssa Jasper nearly had a double-double with nine kills and 12 digs as classmate Amanda Lewis (Poughkeepsie, NY) finished with 30 assists, 14 digs, four block assists and two aces.

Junior Meghan Deighan (Lynnfield, MA) and sophomore Valerie Hoyle (Bridgewater, MA) combined for seven kills, one solo rejection and four block assists to pace the offense.

Junior Jennifer Cabral chipped in with five kills and 14 digs while sophomore Jamika Townsend (Virginia Beach, VA) had a great all-around game with six kills and 12 digs.

The Lancers edged Lesley out in team kills (30-27) while dominating the dig column (84-66) and the squad ended the contest with 10 blocks.

 

 

Worcester State 3, Wentworth 2

Paced by the sixth double-double of the campaign by senior Alyssa Jasper who tallied 25 kills, 16 digs, three aces and two solo blocks, Worcester State finished off their afternoon with a thrilling 3-2 triumph over host Wentworth at the Tansey Gymnasium.

The Lancers, who erased a 7-2 deficit in the fifth set, prevailed in five by scores of 22-25, 25-18, 22-25, 25-16 and 18-16.

Junior Jennifer Cabral was solid for the Blue and Gold as she registered 14 kills and 14 digs while senior Amanda Lewis handed out 42 assists to go with 12 digs and five kills.

Junior Kaylee Leduc distinguished herself by putting up a season-best 37 digs. Sophomore Jamika Towsend also did a little bit of everything with 21 digs, seven kills and six assists to help pace the Lancers.

With 110 digs as a team, Worcester State established a new team record for digs in a single game, eclipsing the previous mark of 109 that had been set two seasons ago against Lasell at home.
