Women's Volleyball Falls At Keene State In 3-1 Defeat

 

Keene, NH --- Sophomore Jamika Townsend (Virginia Beach, VA) did a little bit of everything with 10 kills, 14 digs and a game-best four service aces to help pace Worcester State in a 3-1 setback against Keene State this evening in non-conference women's volleyball action.

The Blue and Gold (21-7) won the first set, 25-21, but then the Owls (18-15) rallied and took the next three by scores of 25-20, 25-14 and 25-18.

Senior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) registered 16 kills to become the first Lancer to eclipse the 400 mark for the season while teammate Amanda Lewis (Poughkeepsie, NY) posted her eighth double-double of the campaign with 33 assists and a contest-best 18 digs.

Junior classmates Jennifer Cabral (Swansea, MA) and Kaylee Leduc (Swansea, MA) both had 14 and 12 digs, respectively, as junior Meghan Deighan (Lynnfield, MA) had four kills and three block assists.

With the score tied up 14-14 in the opening set, the Lancers soon made the score 17-14 on the back of an ace by Cabral. A kill by Jasper helped WSU open up their largest margin (21-16), but Keene State came back and made the score 22-21 to threaten.

The visitors though closed things out with a 3-0 run which included kills by Jasper and sophomore Valerie Hoyle (Bridgewater, MA).

In the second, the hosts opened up an early 8-3 lead before Worcester State trimmed things to 14-11. KSC built it back up to 17-12, however, the Blue and Gold got back into it with a 4-0 run which included a pair of winners by Jasper to trail 17-16.

Keene State though doubled up their opponents 8-4 to even the series 1-1.

The Owls built up large leads in the final two sets to close out the match. KSC registered a blistering .366 hitting percentage with 29 kills to manufacture over half of their points.

Worcester State finished with leads in digs (73-69) while the visitors dominated in kills (69-39).

The Lancers end their regular season on Saturday when they travel to Salem for an 11 AM MASCAC contest. WSU then takes on Gordon at 3 o'clock in the Twohig Gymnasium in the final contest of the tri-match.
