Worcester State Volleyball Soars Past Bay Path, 3-0

HOLYOKE, Mass. – The Worcester State University women's volleyball team soared to their third consecutive victory, as they defeated the Bay Path Wildcats 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-18) Tuesday night at the Bartley Center.

 

Worcester State completed their first set with a stunning .417 attack percentage, as they took the Wildcats down 25-13. Their attack percentages in the second and third set weren't quite as high (.222 and .176, respectively), but still were in turn better than the Wildcats' overall .126 attack percentage on the night.

 

The Lancers' freshman outside hitter Emily Carens (Northboro, Mass.) topped all players with 14 kills hitting a stellar .344 attack percentage.  Fellow outside hitter and senior Jennifer Cabral (Swansea, Mass.) hit .545 for the night with 6 kills while chipping in game-high 20 digs leading the way defensively. Junior setter Jamika Townsend (Virginia Beach, Va.) added a game-high 22 assists, 4 kills and five digs on the night.

 

Sophomore Katrina Kangwijaya (Dunstable, Mass.) controlled the Lancers in service aces with three, while Cabral and Carens each added in two.

 

Sophomores Megan Rouillard (Barrington, N.H.) and Quinn Donovan (Marion, Mass.) came off the bench for Worcester State, and both recorded high attack percentages, at .600 and .500, respectively.

 

For the Wildcats, freshman setter Lexi Cears (Agawam, Mass.) had 20 assists and four digs. Senior middle hitter Elizabeth Haylette (Terryville, Conn.) finished with seven kills and nine digs.

 

Bay Path is now 4-4 on the season, while Worcester State University improves to 5-4 overall. Next up the Lancers will attend the Midcoast Classic, hosted by Bowdoin on Sep. 25-26.
