Lancers Drop a Pair at Western Connecticut's Tri-Match

DANBURY, Conn. – The Worcester State University women's volleyball team slid to 6-7 overall after dropping a pair of matches to Plymouth State and Western Connecticut on Saturday afternoon at Feldman Arena.

 

GAME ONE: Worcester State 0, Plymouth State 3

After downing Western Connecticut in the first game of the day, Plymouth State returned to the floor to blank Worcester in the Lancers' first game of the day with set scores 25-19, 25-14, 25-16.

The Panthers' Claire Sporer (Medford, Ore.), senior Brianna Wojtas (Salem, NH) and classmate Kayla Wyland (Melrose, Mass.) finished with eight kills apiece for the Panthers, while sophomore Emily Carens (Northborough, Mass.) paced the Lancers with a match-high nine.

 

GAME TWO: Worcester State 0, Western Connecticut 3

In the Lancers' second game of the afternoon, the hosts, Western Connecticut State University, shutout the Blue and Gold 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-21) to conclude the day of matches.

Western's Karissa Smith (Bristol, Conn.) notched a match-high in kills, recording 16. The Colonels sophomore Mikayla Aubry (Fresno, Calif.) added 12 for the Colonials, while senior setter Danielle Kaminsky (Southington, Conn.) dished out a match-high 29 assists.

 

For the Lancers, Carens once again led the team with seven match kills. Alexandra Nolan (Melrose, Mass.) registered 13 helpers, while Katrina Kangwijaya (Dunstable, Mass.) tallied a game-high 14 digs.

 

The Lancers return to action on Wednesday (Sep. 28) when they host conference foe, Bridgewater State, in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Atheltic Conference matchup at 7:00 p.m. inside the Lancer Gymnasium.
