WESTON, Mass. – The Worcester State University Lancers women's volleyball team won one against Mount Ida and dropped on against Regis in a tri-match at Higgins Court, hosted by Regis, Saturday (Oct. 8) afternoon.

GAME ONE: WORCESTER STATE 3, MOUNT IDA 0

The Lancers prevailed 3-0 with set scores of 25-11, 25-21, and 25-13 in the first game of the day.

The Lancers started strong with their largest win of the day at 25-11, marking a game-best .345 team attack percentage.

Though, the second set was a battle between the two as the Mustangs kept the score close on back-to-back points, advancing to a 17-13 lead 17-13, causing Worcester State to take a timeout and regain control. They did just that and tied the score up at 21-21 on a kill from Marissa Proia (Framingham, Mass.). With Proia in the serving positon, the Lancers claimed four straight points to seal the 25-21 victory.

The last and final set of the day looked much like the first, where the Lancers ran away with the score and claimed the 3-0 victory over the Mustangs.

Worcester's Emily Carens (Northborough, Mass.) guided the team with a game-high 10 kills, while Sarah Powers (Hopkinton, Mass.) followed with six for a .455 attack percentage. Worcester's Valerie Hoyle (Bridgewater, Mass.) notched the game-best kill percentage at .500, going 4-for-8. Alexandra Nolan (Melrose, Mass.) led the team with 22 helpers, while Megan Leavens (W. Boylston, Mass.) and Caleigh Davis (Acushnet, Mass.) tallied 12 and 11 kills, respectively.

GAME TWO: REGIS 3, WORCESTER STATE 1

The Lancers dropped their second match of the day when they marked a 3-1 setback to the host themselves with set scores of 25-16, 14-25, 23-25, 22-25.

Regis' Sydney Trusty (Durham, Conn.) had a match-high 12 kills and Crystina Lathrop (Houston, Tex.) added 15 digs to help Regis overcome a sluggish first set. The Pride turned the tables in set two with a dominating 25-14 win which started with winning 10 of the first 11 points of the set. The Pride would win sets two and three to take the match and complete the sweep on the day.

Caleigh Davis (Acushnet, Mass.) and Emily Carens (Northborough, Mass.) both had 10 kills to lead the Lancers who fell to 9-11 after splitting their pair of afternoon matches. Megan Leavens (West Boylston, Mass.) had 15 digs to equal Lathrop for match-high honors and Alexandra Nolan (Melrose, Mass.) added 11 digs of her own.

Set three featured a much tighter contest but a Carter kill spearheaded a 5-0 run to help her team to a 17-11 lead. A Valerie Hoyle (Bridgewater, Mass.) kill cut the lead to two points but the Pride held on for the win.

The match looked destined to go to a fifth set but the Pride rallied late to capture the set and the match. Regis trailed 20-13 then ran off 12 of the next 13 points to take the win. Two Lancer timeouts couldn't slow down Trusty who had three kills and two blocks in the run.

Regis next hosts Daniel Webster on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 7:00 p.m. Mount Ida hosts MIT this Tuesday, Oct. 11 with Worcester State retaking the court on Tuesday as well at Westfield State.
