MCLA Defeats Lancers, 3-0

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - The MCLA Volleyball team had three players record at least seven kills as they cruised past the visiting Worcester State Lancers 3-0 Wednesday (Oct. 19) evening in a key Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) tilt.  

 

Both programs were tied coming into the contest.  With the win, MCLA evens their record at 13-13 overall but now sits at 3-2 in the MASCAC.  The Lancers fall to 11-14 on the season and are 2-3 in the conference.

 

MCLA took the opening set 25-18 and then held on for a 25-21 second set win.  They would pull away in the third set and eventually close out the match with a 25-17 victory.

 

Maggie Allen (E. Patchogue, N.Y.) paced the Trailblazers' offense with seven kills and three blocks.  Allison Clark (San Jose, Calif.) continued her strong play with a team best 8 kills and 10 digs.  Fellow senior Sam Anderson (Floral Park, N.Y.) also notched seven kills for the Trailblazers.  The Trailblazers were stout on defense collecting a total of 10 blocks in the match, including three each from Brooke Queripel (Palmer, AK) and Anderson.

 

Michelle Laga (Mahopak, N.Y.) led the Trailblazers defensively as well collecting a team best 15 digs.

 

The Lancers were paced by Sarah Powers (Hopkinton, Mass.) who had a team-high nine kills on the night.  Alexandra Nolan (Melrose, Mass.) set up the offense with 22 assists while Katrina Kangwijaya (Dunstable, Mass.) and Nolan had 13 and 12 digs, respectively.  The Lancers were hurt by 21 errors in the contest.

 

The Trailblazers are off until Tuesday night when they travel to Cobleskill for a non-league matchup. The Lancers resume play on Saturday when they travel across-town to Clark University for a tri-match with the Cougars and Bates.
