Lancers Shutout by Clark and Bates at Saturday’s Tri-Match

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Lancers dropped a pair of matches in a tri-match hosted by Clark University Saturday afternoon inside the Kneller Gymnasium.

 

GAME ONE: Clark University 3, Worcester State 0

The host, Clark University downed the Lancers 3-0 in their first match of the day as the Cougars defeated the Lancers with set scores of 25, 15, 28-26, and 14-25.

 

The Lancers struggled in the first set when their team attack percentage stood at .071. However, the Lancers came back with their strongest set of the day when they recorded a .145 team attack percentage and fell just short as they forced the score to 28-26. The Lancers accumulated nine kills for an attack percentage of .118 in the third set, however, the Cougars held the advantage in kills with 12 for their highest attack percentage of the match at .222.

 

Clark University's Ana Mercado (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) led the Cougars with a game-high 15 kills for an overall attack percentage of .387. Helping the Cougars' offense was Rachel Webb (Celina, Texas) and Tori Whitney (Sunderland, Mass.) who notched 20 and 12 assists, respectively. Mia Catteneo (Santa Barbara, Calif.) led the defense with 22 digs, and also helped the offense out with three points on service aces.

 

The Lancers were guided by Emily Carens (Northborough, Mass.) who recorded a double-double of 11 kills and 13 digs. Worcester's Alexandra Nolan (Melrose, Mass.) led the team with 26 helpers, while Katrina Kangwijaya (Dunstable, Mass.) tallied 19 digs on the defensive end. Sarah Powers (Hopkinton, Mass.) was second on the team in points, as she tallied five kills and one service ace and a game-high three solo blocks. Caleigh Davis (Acushnet, Mass.) followed with nine kills and one service ace for a total of 10 points.

 

GAME TWO: Bates 3, Worcester State 0

The Bates College Bobcats downed the Lancers 3-0 with set scores of 25-17, 25-17, and 25-18 in the Lancers' second contest of the day.

 

Bates held the advantage in attacks throughout the entirety of the game, however, the Lancers came close to them in the third set to register seven kills. However, attack errors came into play and hurt the Lancers in their final set of the day.

 

Worcester's Carens led the team in kills once again as she grabbed a match-high 11. Nolan helped the offense with 16 assists, and Kangwijaya held the defense down with a team-high 16 digs. Powers notched three blocks (two solo).

 

For the Bobcats, Chandler McGrath (Seal Beach, Calif.) led the team with the match-high 11 kills, while Lisa Silvken (New York, N.Y.) grabbed eight. Jacqueline Forney (Bloomington, Ind.) tallied a game-high 29 assists, while Gabi Eustache (New York, N.Y.) dug up 26 balls for a game-high digs.

 

Next up, the Lancers travel to Anna Maria College on Oct. 25 for a non-conference match before heading home to host a tri-match next Saturday (Oct. 29).
