King Tabbed MASCAC Volleyball Player of the Week

 MASCAC Release

WORCESTER, Mass. - Worcester State University's junior outside hitter, Amari King (Lawrence, Mass.) has been tabbed the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) volleyball player of the week, as announced by the league Monday afternoon.

King averaged 11.5 kills, 18.5 digs and two service aces at the Worcester City Tournament to earn a spot on the All-Tournament team in a 1-1 week for the Blue and Gold.

"Amari had an excellent Worcester City tournament as she was strong both offensively and defensively," commented head coach Bernie Chase.  "On offense she moved the ball around and found the open spot with power.  She was solid on defense, hustled, passed well, and attacked out of the back row."

She registered a double-double of 16 kills and 23 digs with four service aces in the 3-2 win over WPI. She then tallied seven kills with 14 digs in the 3-0 setback to Clark University.

Amari transferred to Worcester State after having two outstanding seasons at Anna Maria.  Chase added, "She is a talented player who fits in very well with this team and leads by example.  Amari and Emily Carens will have strong seasons as they complement each other on the court."

The women's volleyball team returns to action tomorrow (Sep. 5) as they host Rhode Island College in a 7 p.m. matchup inside the Lancer Gymnasium.
