Worcester State Women’s Volleyball Garners AVCA Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, KY - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced that the Worcester State University women’s volleyball team received the Team Academic Award for the 2017-2018 season.  The Lancers were one of 975 teams that received the award this year.  This is the first time that the team has won this award.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

The women’s team posted an overall team GPA of 3.50 and landed 11 players on the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) All-Academic team with at least a 3.2 GPA.

The AVCA award comes on the heels of one of the most successful seasons the Lancers have had on the court.  The team won the MASCAC regular season and tournament championships reaching the first round of the NCAA tournament where they fell to eventual quarterfinalist Emory University.

The Lancers return to campus on August 20th to begin their 2018 campaign.
