Women's Volleyball Drops Pair at Worcester City Tournament

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester State University women's volleyball team picked up a pair of defeats on Saturday as it opened its season at the Worcester City Tournament on the campus of Clark University. The Lancers dropped its first match by a final of 3-0 again WPI before falling to the hosts from Clark 3-1. The Lancers fall to 0-2 with the losses.

Stephanie Chapin (Hampden, Mass.) led the Lancers offensively in the opener against WPI, recording nine kills and just one attack error for an impressive .471 attack percentage. Megan Leavens (Storrs, Conn.) was equally as impressive on the defensive side of the ball, finishing with 20 digs in the match. Senior Amari King (Lawrence, Mass.) recorded five kills and 15 digs in the loss.

King had another strong outing in match two, with 10 kills and seven digs. Setter Allie Nolan (Melrose, Mass.), who finished with 25 assists in the day's opener, dished out 17 assists against Clark.

After the tournament, Leavens and Nolan were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Lancers will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Providence to take on Rhode Island College. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
