LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Worcester State University women's volleyball team has been named one of the nation's 1,126 American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award honorees. The Lancers joined 174 NCAA Division III teams in receiving the award.

Worcester State and MCLA were the only representatives on the list from the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference. MCLA ranked in the top 25 in all of Division III to earn a spot on the AVCA Academic Honor Roll.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

Worcester State will open its season in just over a month with a tri-match at WPI on August 31. The full schedule will be announced on Wednesday.
