Worcester State Drops Five-Setter to Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - The Worcester State University women's volleyball team was handed its first Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference loss in three seasons on Wednesday night, falling to Bridgewater State University 3-2 at the Tinsley Center. Set scores were 16-25, 25-15, 25-16, 22-25, 15-12.

With the loss, Worcester State falls to 5-10 overall this season and 2-1 in MASCAC.

Worcester State sophomore Natalie Gillis (Ashland, Mass.) had a huge match for the Lancers, leading all players with 19 kills and 20 digs in the losing effort.

Gillis was one of four Lancers in double digits in digs, as libero Brooke Lamothe (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished with 16, senior Katie Gagnon (Hampden, Mass.) finished with 15, and senior Stephanie Chapin (Hamden, Mass.) had 12. 

Worcester State looked like a different team offensively in the sets that it won, with 23 kills and just four errors for an attack percentage of .253 in their victorious first and fourth sets. In sets two, three, and five, the Lancers had 27 kills with 20 errors for an attack percentage of .083.

Worcester State will return to action on Saturday for a tri-match at Plymouth State against the Panthers and Northern Vermont University-Lyndon.
