Women's Volleyball Swept by Plymouth State in Doubleheader

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Worcester State University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to Plymouth State University in a non-conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Foley Gymnasium. Worcester State dropped the first match 3-1 (25-10, 22-25, 25-19, 25-21) before they were swept 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-13) in match two.

With the losses, Worcester State drops to 5-12 overall this season.

Sophomore Natalie Gillis (Ashland, Mass.) stayed red hot in the opener, with 19 kills and 14 digs for Worcester State's lone double-double of the day. Gillis accounted for more than half of Worcester State's 34 kills in the match.

Leading Worcester State defensively was libero Brooke Lamothe (Tewksbury, Mass.), who compiled 17 digs in the first match of the afternoon. Setter Katie Gagnon (Hampden, Mass.) finished with 10 digs of her own to go along with 32 assists. Senior Stephanie Chapin (Hampden, Mass.) was solid for Worcester as well, chipping in three blocks and two service aces.

Plymouth State's offense couldn't be stopped in match two, as the Panthers posted an attack percentage of .312 to cruise to the sweep. Gillis again led Worcester State offensively, adding seven kills in the defeat to go along with seven digs. Freshman Camryn Burgio (Quincy, Mass.) led the Lancers with eight digs.

Worcester State will look to snap a four-match skid on Thursday when the Lancers play host to Elms College at 7 p.m. at John P. Brissette Court.
