Women's Volleyball Earns USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Worcester State University women's volleyball team has received the United State Marine Corps/American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award. The announcement came from the AVCA on Monday afternoon.

The award honors interscholastic volleyball teams from both college and high school levels that maintain a year-long grade point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale. Worcester State was one of 1,313 teams nationwide to receive the award.

It is the third consecutive year the Lancers have won the award. They are the only team representing the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference on this year's list.

"I am proud of this team's accomplishments both on and off the court," said Worcester State head coach Bernie Chase. "They are highly motivated student-athletes."

"I am incredibly proud of our women's volleyball team, and happy to see them get recognized for their accomplishments in the classroom," said Worcester State Director of Athletics Michael Mudd. "Being the only team to represent the MASCAC makes the award that much more special."
