Women's Cross Country Places 17th At James Early Invitational

 

Westfield, MA --- Senior teammates Ali Barrett (Hingham, MA) and Jenna Pickard (Peabody, MA) along with junior Chelsey Peso (Uxbridge, MA) all placed inside the top 100 to help lead the Worcester State women's cross country team to finish 17th overall at the James Early 5k Invitational this morning hosted by Westfield State at Stanley Park.

Fifth-ranked Williams captured the team trophy with 46 points at the meet which featured three Division II teams, Division I Siena and 361 individuals.

The meet marked the largest the Lancers have competed in this season as the field included 38 teams. WSU tallied 465 points which was just 18 off the top 15.

Peso led the effort with 51st (20:35.15) followed by Barrett (20:48.03) who notched 70th and Pickard finished 95th (21:17.58).

Freshman Katherine Becker (Haverhill, MA) added 159th (22:20.62) while junior Maggie Ingraham (Danvers, MA) and Melanie Hunter (Maynard, MA) were just seconds off in 169th (22:49.86) and 185th (22:49.86), respectively.

Sophomore Amy Defrancesco (Tewksbury, MA) rounded out the Lancers with 341st overall (28:32.43).

Worcester State heads to Western New England University next weekend to warm-up for the MASCAC/Alliance Championships on November 2 at Southern Maine.
