Women's Cross Country Takes Home Eighth At WNE Invitational

 

Springfield, MA --- Junior Chelsey Peso (Uxbridge, MA) underscored three to place in the top 50 as she helped lead the Worcester State women's cross country team to eighth overall at the Western New England Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Salve Regina took home the team trophy with 55 points to outpace 22 other institutions at the meet which included 190 entrants.

Peso was sixth overall with a time of 19:55.44 followed by senior Ali Barrett (Hingham, MA) who added 19th (20:32.56) and classmate Jenna Pickard (Peabody, MA) followed with 45th (21:18.41).

Freshman Katherine Becker (Haverhill, MA) and junior Maggie Ingraham (Danvers, MA) were seconds apart in 75th (22:23.75) and 78th (22:24.97), respectively, while first-year Melanie Hunter (Maynard, MA) clocked 83rd (22:36.75).

Sophomore Amy Defrancesco (Tewksbury, MA) scored as the seventh runner for the Blue and Gold with 179th (30:06.12).

The Lancers will continue to practice on the local trails over the next two weeks in preparation for the MASCAC/Alliance Championship hosted by Southern Maine on November 2.
