Women's Cross Country Takes Home Third Place At MASCAC Championships

 

Gorham, ME --- Junior Chelsey Peso (Uxbridge, MA) and senior Ali Barrett (Hingham, MA) both earned All-MASCAC accolades with top 10 finishes as they both helped propel the Worcester State women's cross country team to a third-place finish at the conference championships on Saturday afternoon.

Westfield State scored 10 fewer points than Bridgewater State (44) to win the crown while the Lancers netted 75 as a team. In the New England Alliance standings, WSU placed seventh with 198 points.

Peso recorded fifth overall (20:18.70), just 49 seconds off of the top finisher as Barrett added seventh (20:34.39) for her third career All-MASCAC honor. The pair also posted top 30 finishes on the New England Alliance individual leaderboard.

Senior Jenna Pickard (Peabody, MA) also placed 17th (21:21.16) while freshman Katherine Becker (Haverhill, MA) and junior Maggie Ingraham (Danvers, MA) were seconds off each other in 31st (22:09.13) and 35th (22:18.63), respectively.

First-year Melanie Hunter (Maynard, MA) recorded 42nd (22:50.81) and sophomore Amy Defrancesco (Tewksbury, MA) notched 81st (30:27.52) to round out the top seven for the Blue and Gold.

The Lancers come back to Southern Maine's 5k cross country course in two weeks for the NCAA Division III New England Regional qualifier.
