WESTFIELD, Mass. - The Worcester State University women's cross country team has been selected to win its third straight Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference championship, as the conference announced the men's and women's cross country Preseason Polls on Wednesday.

The Lancers received all six possible first place votes to finish atop the poll with 41 points. Finishing in second was Westfield State with the final first place vote and 28 points. The Worcester State women return 2018 MASCAC Runner of the Year Elisabeth Olson (Wilmington, Mass.), who will look to lead the Lancers to another conference crown.

The men's team finished its Preseason Poll in a second place tie, receiving 29 points to narrowly miss the top spot. Places one through four were separated by just three points, with Bridgewater State claiming the top spot, Westfield State and Worcester State tied for second, and Fitchburg State in fourth place. Leading the charge for Worcester State will be 2018 MASCAC Rookie of the Year Drew Fottler (Chelmsford, Mass.), who was the top Lancer finisher as the team finished in fourth at the MASCAC Championships.

Both teams will kick off their seasons over the weekend as they host the Worcester City Meet on Saturday at Moore State Park in Paxton.
