Despres Named MASCAC Softball Player of the Week

WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University’s Sydney Despres (Sterling, Mass.) has been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) softball player of the week, as announced by the conference Monday (Apr. 17) afternoon.

Despres batted .625 (10-16) with two doubles, a home run, seven RBI and seven runs scored plus a .760 on-base and a .938 slugging percentage in a 4-2 week for the Lancers.

"Sydney continues to work hard every day to do as much as she can to help the team,"  said head coach Michelle Cote.  "After last year's success, Sydney has had to learn to not get frustrated and go for bad pitches since most teams are not pitching to her, as witnessed by her increase in being walked this year."

She went 3-for-5 with an RBI, four walks and three runs scored in the doubleheader 9-8, 8-7 sweep of Bridgewater State. She also was 5-for-7 with two doubles, a home run, five RBI and five runs scored in the doubleheader sweep of Rhode Island College.

The softball team has the week off and returns to MASCAC action on Saturday when they host Salem State in a 12/2pm doubleheader.
