Four Lancers Receive MASCAC Weekly Awards

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Four Worcester State University student athletes have received weekly awards from the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference brought to you by GEICO. The announcement came from the conference office on Monday afternoon. 

Freshman Ryan Hoff (Brockton, Mass.) was named MASCAC Men's Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week on Monday. He earned his first collegiate shutout in his first collegiate start on Saturday night, making 38 saves as the Lancers defeated Assumption 1-0 in overtime.

Sophomore Bernice Mensah (Worcester, Mass.) was named Field Athlete of the Week for women's indoor track and field. She placed 26th overall in the triple jump at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University, jumping 10.5m (34’5.5”) in the event.

Freshman Ryann Molinari (Grafton, Mass.) was named Rookie of the Week for women's indoor track and field. Finishing in 87th place in the 1000m, she ran with a time of 3:13.75 at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational.

Rounding out the awards for Worcester State Monday was senior Marcus Vieira (Peabody, Mass.), who was named Field Athlete of the Week for men's indoor track and field. He tied for third in the weight throw over the weekend at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, heaving his throw 17.07m (56’0”) to earn a top-three spot while competing against athletes primarily from Division I. He finished as the top Division III thrower in the event.

Hoff's men's ice hockey team returns to the ice on Tuesday night to complete its suspended game against Framingham State. The indoor track & field teams will travel to Plymouth State next weekend to compete in the MASCAC Championships.
