SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Catherine Sweeney (Lowell, Mass.), a junior on the Worcester State University women's basketball team, has been named to the New England Women's Basketball Association Weekly Honor Roll. Sweeney is the first Lancer to receive recognition from NEWBA this season.
Sweeney had strong all-around numbers with 11.7 points, 10.7 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game in a 3-0 week for the Lancers. Her top performance of the week came on Thursday, when Sweeney logged an impressive triple-double with 17 points, 19 rebounds, 11 assists and two blocks in a 94-79 win over MASCAC-leading Westfield State. She also recorded 10 points, six assists, two steals and two rebounds in Tuesday's 63-50 victory at Bridgewater State, and wrapped up her week on Saturday with eight points, 11 boards, five assists, two steals and two blocks in a 57-53 win over Salem State.
Sweeney and the Lancers will be back in action on Wednesday evening with a trip to Framingham State. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
