Three Lancers Receive Weekly Regional Honors

WORCESTER, Mass. - Three Worcester State University basketball players received weekly recognition on Tuesday morning.

Senior Mya Mosley (Worcester, Mass.) was named the New England Women's Basketball Association Player of the Week, while freshmen Sam Dion (Barre, Mass.) and Erin Gallella (Tewksbury, Mass.) were named the men's and women's Worcester Area College Basketball Association Rookies of the Week.

Mosley finished off the final week of the regular season with a pair of huge performances in wins over Fitchburg State and Bridgewater State last week. She averaged 24.5 points per game to lead the Lancers, while also averaging 7.5 rebounds, 4.0 blocks, 3.5 assists, and 3.0 steals per game.

Dion had a pair of strong outings for the Lancers last week, helping his team secure a share of the MASCAC Regular Season Championship for the first time in 20 years. Dion averaged 19.0 points per game in two contests on the week and converted 6-of-12 three-point attempts (50 percent). He also averaged 3.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals, and 2.5 assists per game.

Gallella averaged 8.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game on the week as the Lancers grabbed a pair of wins to secure the three seed in the upcoming MASCAC Tournament.

Mosley and Dion each received the same awards from the MASCAC on Wednesday. Dion and Gallella each earn their second WACBA Rookie of the Week honors on the season, while Mosley earns her first NEWBA Player of the Week nod.

Both teams will compete in their respective MASCAC Tournaments this week. The third-seeded women's team hosts Fitchburg State this evening, while the second-seeded men's team received a bye into the semifinals and will host either MCLA or Fitchburg State on Thursday.
