Paul Gaffney '89
Title: Class of 1997

A remarkable athletic champion, Paul Gaffney '80 was a four year member of the indoor and outdoor track teams at Worcester State College. He was the captain of the teams his senior year and was named an All American in track four times during his career.

He competed in the NCAA Nationals three times in the indoor 35 pound weight throw and three times in the outdoor hammer throw. He finished second in the nation in the 35 pound weight throw in 1987 and fifth in the nation in the hammer throw in 1988. He was the indoor New England and ECAC Champion in 1987 and was the outdoor New England champion in the hammer in 1988. He also was the Massachusetts State College Champion in the hammer in 1988.

He currently holds the Worcester State College record for the 35 pound weight throw at 55 feet 2 inches and holds the school record for the hammer with a throw of 186 feet, 3 inches.

Paul is employed as a police officer for the city of Worcester.
