Paul Joseph '70
Title: Class of 2003

Paul Joseph, '70, is being honored for his outstanding contribution and dedication to Worcester State College athletics for more than 30 years. Many consider him to be a Lancer SuperFan, especially for the football program.

Even though he retired from his WSC administrator's post in the spring of 2002, Paul continues his support for football, being a frequent spectator at games during the fall 2002 and 2003 seasons.

Paul's contributions include several athletic areas at WSC. However, his focus in recent years on the football program is quite understandable when it's revealed that he was a founding member of the Lancers club football team in 1969. He was a co-captain of that first club team, and by the time the program evolved into full collegiate varsity program in 1985, he was a WSC administrator.

Paul's 30-plus years at WSC includes: Manager of Recreation Facilities (1971-76); Director of Student Activities (1976-78); Director of Student Center/Student Activities (1978-84); Assistant Dean, Associate Dean, Dean of Students (1985-2002); and Sports Information Director (1971-77).

In addition, Paul compiled the college's first record books for all varsity sports; was instrumental in building the softball diamond at Rockwood Field to bring the 1996 U.S. Olympic Softball Team to Worcester and the WSC campus; and was on the 2000 Organizing Committee to bring the U.S. Olympic Softball Team back to Worcester/WSC.

Also, he was instrumental in the design and construction of the Astroturf complex known as John Coughlin Memorial Field; negotiated to bring MIAA high school championships (6 soccer, 2 field hockey) to WSC in 1997-98, and three Central Mass. Football Super Bowls.

Concurrent with his employment at Worcester State, Paul was involved in many community activities. Currently, he coaches youth basketball at St. Joseph's School in Webster; is a youth softball coach for a 12 & under girls team in Dudley; serves on the Town of Dudley Personnel Board and its Police Evaluation Committee (vice chairman); is a member of the St. Joseph School Auction Committee; and St. Joseph Basilica Festival Committee.

Paul now is an auctioneer for Grey Ghost Auction Services, a company he owns.
