Baseball Doubled Up by Rhode Island College

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Worcester State University baseball team fell by a final score of 8-4 to Rhode Island College Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at Pontarelli Field.

With the loss, Worcester State falls to 8-7 overall on the season.

The Anchormen did nearly all of its damage in a dominating bottom of the third inning, in which they put seven runs across the plate. The biggest blow was a three-run home run by Tyler Walsh, which at the time put the hosts ahead 4-0.

Worcester State mounted a serious comeback bid with runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, but the rally would ultimately fall short. Sophomore Jake Breton (Wilbraham, Mass.) got it started with a solo home run in the top of the fourth, and junior Cooper Bigelow (Leominster, Mass.) drove in a pair on a double in the fifth. An RBI single from freshman Andrew Miller (Naples, Fla.) would prove to be the last offensive push for the Lancers.

Rhode Island College added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh to help cap the victory for the Anchormen.

Junior Kevin Larkin (Rocky Hill, Conn.) took the loss on the hill, allowing five earned runs in 2.2 innings pitched.

Worcester State will return to action tomorrow with a MASCAC matchup against Fitchburg State slated for 3:30 p.m.
