Lancers Fall in Final Non-Conference Bout of the Season

Worcester, MA- In the final non-conference battle of the regular season the Worcester State Baseball team (8-24, 7-11) journey north to take on Keene State (17-20, 6-8) in a single nine-inning battle in their mid week contest.

Final

Worcester State: 2

Keene State: 9

How it Happened:

After multiple innings of good defense being played on both sides, the Owls were finally able to put the first runs on the board for either side after a barrage of base hits through the infield with two outs in the inning, scoring multiple base runners in order to give them an early 7-0 lead over the Lancers after carrying zero hits through the first few innings.

In the bottom of the fifth, Keene State would once again start to form a two-out rally against the Lancers which would eventually bring home another run after a base hit up the middle to extend their lead to 8-0 over Worcester heading into the sixth.

The Lancers were finally able to get on the board in the seventh inning after they were able to get senior Catcher Colin Fitzgerald (Auburn, MA) into scoring position on a walk followed by a wild pitch. Soon after, first year outfielder Kevin Doyle (Bridgewater, MA) smacked a double into left center field which scored Fitzgerald for their first run of the game. Later in the inning, Doyle was also able to come around and score after a passed ball by the Owls pitcher which helped the Lancers put up their second run to make it an 8-2 game heading into the bottom of the seventh.

Keene State would answer quickly in the same inning with a walk and a stolen base that would eventually lead to another RBI double that extended the Owls lead back up to seven runs.

This would be the nail in the game, as the final inning of play would see the Lancers ultimately not being able to get anything going which resulted in a Keene State victory over Worcester with a final score of 9-2.
