Emile Johnson began coaching for the Lancers prior to the 2018 season. He retired in 2013 as the state leader in high school wins (725), with 43 straight winning seasons at Leominster, three Division 1 state titles (1986, 1988, 1996), and six Central Massachusetts titles.

All told, Coach Johnson won over 1,300 games in his high school sports coaching career, and is regarded by many as the greatest high school level coach in state history. Johnson is a Massachusetts Baseball Coaches Association, Leominster High School, and Fitchburg State University Hall of Famer. Many of his players went on to great success in college and pro ball most notably Steve Santucci, John Kelly, Peter Charpentier, and Jeff Berry. Former Blue Devils to suit up for Worcester State include Tino Proietti, Ryan LaPrade, Kevin Barnaby, and TJ Magnell. He was recently named the greatest coach in Massachusetts high school baseball history by Max Preps.

Johnson won another 485 games coaching soccer (38 years) with two state titles at Leominster. He graduated from Fitchburg State and played four years in the Cape League, winning two league titles, earning 14 varsity letters, and played in the 1960 Soccer National Championship Game. Emile taught in Leominster for 38 years in the industrial arts program.

Johnson's children are Debbie and Brendan, and he currently lives in Fitchburg.
