Men's Basketball Victorious in Overtime Thriller

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. - The Worcester State University men's basketball team pulled out a thrilling 91-89 overtime win Thursday evening on the road at Framingham State University in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference action.

With the win, Worcester State stays unbeaten in the MASCAC at 2-0, while improving to 6-8 overall.

Worcester State senior Tyler Dion (Barre, Mass.) banked in a three-pointer at the buzzer to force the extra session, tying the contest at 80-80. The Lancers inbounded in the frontcourt with just 1.8 seconds remaining, which resulted in Dion's acrobatic bucket.

With the game tied at 86-86 and exactly a minute to show on the clock in the overtime period, junior Chris Cardoso (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) hit a layup to put the Lancers ahead for good. Cardoso and sophomore Corey Olivier (Maynard, Mass.) hit free throws in the final minute, and only a buzzer-beating Framingham three prevented Worcester State from closing out the overtime on a 7-0 run.

Dion was Worcester State's leading scorer in the victory, scoring 20 points in the victory. Olivier finished with 18 points, all coming in the second half and overtime. Cardoso had Worcester State's lone double-double in the contest, with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

The Lancers will be back in action on Saturday with a road trip to Salem State.
