Men's Golf Competes in First Round of NEIGA Championships

BREWSTER, Mass. - The Worcester State University men's golf team competed in the opening round of the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships on Sunday morning at The Captains Golf Course on Cape Cod.

Worcester State was led on the day by senior Connor Anderson (Raynham, Mass.) who turned in a nine-over 81. Anderson started on the 10th hole, and birdied the par-5 13th and par-4 4th to turn in Worcester State's low round. 

Sophomore Jake Poitras (Harwich, Mass.) was Worcester State's second finisher, with an 84 on the day. Senior Brian Poillucci (North Attleboro, Mass.) placed third for the Lancers with a 95.

In fourth and fifth for Worcester State were seniors Mike Manning (Bridgewater, Mass.) and Zack Grenon (Uxbridge, Mass.) with scores of 97 and 104 respectively.

A pair of Lancers competed in round one as individuals as well. Sophomore Aidan Burke (Westborough, Mass.) turned in an 89, while freshman Matt Thurston (Lunenburg, Mass.) shot a 99, but neither counted towards Worcester State's team score.

The Lancers will look to climb the leaderboard on day two of the NEIGA Tournament, contested tomorrow at The Captains Golf Course.
