Ice Hockey Shutout In City Cup Consolation By Assumption, 1-0

Marlboro, MA --- Despite 20 saves by junior Salvatore Tecci (Franklin, MA/Long Beach Bombers), Worcester State was blanked by Assumption, 1-0, in the consolation game of the Fourth Annual City Cup hosted by Becker at the New England Sports Center.

The Greyhounds snap a five game losing streak to improve to 2-7 while the Lancers slip to 2-5-2 in the loss.

Assumption took the 1-0 edge halfway through the opening period when sophomore Paul Amarone (Hamden, CT/Trinity Paulings) was sent over a one-timer pass by senior Brennen Shaw (Presque Isle, ME/Brewster Academy) and junior Alex Erban (Attleboro, MA/Mt Saint Charles).

With 8:34 of the clock in the second, the Greyhounds had a chance to increase their margin to 2-0 on a penalty shot after junior Brandon Bete (Greenfield, MA/Northfield Mt Hernon) was cut down on a breakaway, but Tecci turned aside the puck to preserve the score.

Coming out of the locker room in the third period, Worcester State pummeled the opposing net finishing with the 13-6 margin in shots while also pulling Tecci with 1:07 left in regulation, however, junior Chris Hemhauser (Old Saybrook, CT/Worcester) stopped all of them to register his first career shutout.

The Lancers ended the contest with the 27-21 margin in shots and did not score each of their two power play chances. The Greyhounds were 0-for-6 with the extra man advantage, which included two opportunities in the second and third frames.

Worcester State looks to get back on the winning track when they entertain Westfield State on Thursday in a 7:35 matchup. Assumption hosts Saint Anselm in a Northeast-10 meeting on Wednesday at 7 PM.

For his outstanding play defensively, junior Jim LeNoir (Exton, PA/Philadelphia Jr Flyers) was honored on the All-Tournament Team.
